Today’s card combines water coloring (with blender pens) and the Celebrate Sunflowers stamp set. This is a great technique that I used as a brand new demonstrator–before I built up my supply of coloring tools. If you have the markers, use those instead. You can also apply a bit of the watercolor pencils to a piece of paper, and pick up your color from that.
To start with, I cut a piece of Bumble Bee card stock at 8-1/2” x 5-1/2”. Score at 4-1/4”. The next layer is Basic Black cut @ 5-3/8” x 4-1/8”. For the last layer, I used our Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper (page 153 of the 2020-2021 catalog). It’s important to use watercolor paper for this technique. If you were to use regular card stock, the paper might begin to “pill”.
Using the Stamparatus, I stamped my images with Crumb Cake. I wanted a softer image, so I chose an ink color that would easily blend into the other ink colors. Sahara Sand would also work well.
Lightly press a small block onto the ink. I chose Bumble Bee for the petals, and Cinnamon Cider for the center of the Sunflower.
You can see that I am putting the smallest amount of color to the tip of my pen. You can always add more color later, but it sure is difficult to take away.
Starting at the base of the petals, color outwards. For the center, I first colored using the Cinnamon Cider and then applied a hint of Wink of Stella to give it some sparkle.
I used the Fluid 100 Water Color paper for my sentiment tag. I don’t know about you, but I am always happy to have the perfect sentiments included with the stamp set I purchased. Because the watercolor paper is not flat, you will have to stamp this a couple of times. ***That is a real benefit of the Stamparatus! You can reink your image as much as you like and it’s lined up perfectly every time***
Adhere everything together, pop that sentiment tag up on dimensionals, add some twine and bling and this card is done!
